A region of contrasts
A delicious drop from Navarre
The landscape of Navarre is extremely diverse, ranging from the Pyrenees and lovely forests to the semi-desert form of the Bardenas Reales. This diversity is also reflected in the gastronomy of this small region. This can be enjoyed not only on the plate, but also as a fine drop in the glass.
The Navarre wine region is one of the most important wine-growing regions on the Iberian Peninsula. And not only that, Navarre is one of the oldest wine regions in the world. Around 16,000 hectares are planted to produce excellent red wines, white wines and rosés.
Navarra's wines are so special that they have their own designation of origin, the D.O. Navarra. The rare climatic conditions, namely the meeting of the continental, Atlantic and Mediterranean climates, produce first-class wines that could not be more diverse, so that every palate can find the perfect drop.
There are a total of five wine-growing regions in Navarre, through which the "Wine Route of Navarre" runs, an association of many wineries in the region.
Tourists can learn more about viticulture and the grape harvest by visiting the various wineries. The various wineries along the wine route vividly present the special features and oenological diversity of the region. In addition to wine tasting and sampling, special activities are also on the program.

Breathtaking natural landscapes
The Selva de Irati (Forest of Ferns) stretches at an altitude of 800 m and looks like something out of a fairy tale. In the middle of the second largest contiguous beech and spruce forest in Europe, there is a reservoir that can be crossed via a lock.
The north of the region is characterized by the Pyrenees. In the eastern part lies the picturesque Roncal Valley, which is known for its shepherds and cheese. The village of Roncal is a typical Pyrenean village with old stone houses and steep alleyways. The nearby Arbayún gorge - 4 km long and up to 385 m deep - is well worth a visit and can be explored on a hike or viewed from a spectacular balcony above. The Belagua Valley is located in the easternmost tip of the region on the border with France. The highest mountain in Navarre, the Mesa de los Tres Reyes (2400 m), offers a view of the French Atlantic coast on a clear day.

The Vía Verde del Vasco-Navarra is 100 km long and connects Vitoria in the Basque Country with Estella in Navarra. It passes through mountainous areas and wide plains. In Navarre, the ride along the River Ega is quite relaxed. A special highlight is an overnight stay under the stars - the route has been designated a Starlight Route.
The Vía Verde del Bidasoa runs along the idyllic river of the same name. Through green meadows, kiwi plantations and typical villages as well as past mills, country houses and bunkers from the Civil War, you will discover one or two highlights. Along the way, it is always worth stopping to watch the salmon as they climb the steps upstream.
The Vía Verde del Plazaola follows the former railroad line between Pamplona and San Sebastián. From the train station in Lekunberri, you travel through the Larraun or Leitzaran valley. The river of the same name accompanies a large part of the route in the Basque Country.
