Grohotiș-hegység

The Grohotiş Mountains make a separate note among the Curvature Carpathians, given their aspect in the alpine area. Their landscape is similar to that of the Baiului Mountains - extensive meadows with small, brownish grass, clear paths, gentle peaks. The relief of these mountains, the relatively easy access, or the enchanting views once you reach the plateau, recommend them as an alternative to the much sought-after Ciucaș Mountains. Even ATV enthusiasts get here, through the routes connecting with the neighboring mountains. The easiest and most popular route to Grohotiș Peak (1768m) starts from Bratocea Pass.

I would rate this route as hard, because the dirt road is rather rocky. This means that you don't have such a good grip and it's not so comfortable to ride it for some 50 km. Other than that it's a lovely scenery for the most part. You may come across some sheep here and there, but the dogs guarding them are well behaved and don't bother you. There are a couple of springs from where you can replenish your water supply. Most of the time there is no shade, so be prepared accordingly. For our group of 3 it was exactly 6h of bike time, but 8h30m overall (including breaks). We ran it in reverse, because we preferred to have a longer, steady, mild climb instread of an abrupt climb and a long descent.
