We hiked part of Trail 1 from Kastro to Artemonas and it was just stunning! Kastro itself is a true gem and you could spend hours strolling through its narrow white-and-blue houses, in perfect Cycladic fashion (highlight: the Church of the Seven Martyrs). The path starting here is a "botanic path", where many different species of Mediterranean plants have been labeled and highlighted. Trail 1 stretches flat along the coast and the sea breeze helps co (still, I wouldn't recommend walking here during the central hours of the day). Panagia Poulati is only about 2 km away and is a nice, little church and a perfect shaded stop for resting a bit. The church is right at the top of a pretty long set of stairs that lead down to a secluded beach, which would have been great for swimming if the wind wasn't that strong. We then climbed up towards Artemonas, about 2 km of steady uphill. Artemonas is a buzzing little town with lots of shops, cafes, and restaurants, the ideal place to end a hike!
