Touristically relevant are above all the numerous cycling and hiking paths along the Ems as well as the water sports opportunities on the river itself. A walk through the spa gardens or a ride in a horse-drawn carriage is also recommended.
Cultural highlights include the Museum Kloster Bentlage or the Alte Molkerei cultural centre, where concerts and theatre performances are held regularly. A special event every year in September is the traditional harvest festival with a parade and market stalls.
For culinary delights, local specialities such as kale with spelt or labskaus are a must-try! Regional beers should not be missed either.
In summer, canoeing on the Ems is a great option, while in winter you can go ice skating - if it's freezing enough, of course! If it rains, a visit to the indoor swimming pool or one of the cosy cafés is recommended.
The nicest thing to do in Rhede (Ems) is to spend a sunny day on the riverbank, where you can enjoy nature and relax. But even in bad weather, the town has its charm and offers enough possibilities for a varied trip.
Rhede (Ems), Emsland - definitely worth a visit!
