One of the most famous sights in this area is Falkenberg Castle near Pleystein. It was built as early as the 12th century and sits enthroned on a rock above the town. From here you have a wonderful view of the surrounding countryside. Neuhaus Castle near Neustadt an der Waldnaab is also worth a visit: it dates back to the 16th century and today houses a museum on the history of the town.
The annual Old Town Festival in Neustadt an der Waldnaab in the summer and the Christmas market spectacle on the first weekend of Advent every year provide cultural highlights - both events attract many tourists from near and far.
Culinary specialities are of course also available: in the restaurants you can enjoy typical Bavarian food such as roast pork, dumplings and beer. But the Upper Palatinate cuisine also has its own delicacies, such as "Kartoffelkäs" (potato cheese) or "Sauerbratensuppe" (sour roast soup).
Those who enjoy spending time in nature will also get their money's worth here: the forest offers numerous hiking trails through picturesque landscapes. It is especially beautiful in spring, when the forests are full of flowers and you can hear the birds chirping.
But what to do when it rains? Pleystein and Neustadt an der Waldnaab have a solution for that too: the Aquafit leisure pool provides water fun no matter what the weather!
Summarising, these two towns are definitely worth a trip! Everyone will find something to their taste here - be it culture, nature or culinary delights. A travel guide for Bavaria without a side trip to Pleystein and Neustadt an der Waldnaab would be incomplete!
