Discover the region
One of Mitwitz's main attractions is Mitwitz Castle - a magnificent Baroque castle dating from the 16th century. It was built on the ruins of a medieval castle and today houses a museum as well as an art gallery.
Another highlight are the historic half-timbered houses in the old town of Kronach, located only a few kilometres away from Mitwitz. Here you will also find the Rosenberg Fortress Museum as well as numerous restaurants and cafés where you can sample typical Franconian dishes.
For cultural highlights, we recommend a visit to the summer theatre in the Lauenstein castle ruins or the "Kronacher Impressionen" jazz festival. Both events attract thousands of visitors every year.
When it rains, there is still plenty to do: How about a visit to the indoor playground "Kinderland"? Or visit one of the many museums such as the German Toy Museum or the Historical Printing Museum?
For outdoor activities, spring and summer are particularly suitable. Here you can go hiking, cycling or canoeing on the river Rodach. In winter, there are opportunities for skiing and snowboarding in the surrounding ski areas such as the Ochsenkopf.
Where is the most beautiful? We recommend a walk through the picturesque villages around Mitwitz, where you can admire traditional half-timbered houses. A trip to the nearby Frankenwald Nature Park is also worthwhile - here you will find untouched forests and idyllic lakes.
Mitwitz, Kronach is definitely worth a trip! Whether culture, nature or culinary delights - everyone will find something to their taste here. We hope this guide will help you make the most of your stay!
