Metten is best known for its Benedictine monastery, which was founded as early as the 8th century. The monastery houses an impressive library with over 200,000 volumes as well as a magnificent baroque church. On a guided tour of the monastery, you can learn a lot about the history of the region.

Cultural highlights are also offered by the annual cultural festival "Musiksommer", which features concerts of various genres - from classical music to jazz or pop.

For nature lovers, there are many opportunities for hiking or cycling along the Danube or through the nearby Bavarian Forest National Park. Hikes are particularly beautiful in autumn, when the leaves turn colourful and offer a breathtaking play of colours.

Metten also has some culinary specialities to offer - be sure to try the famous Zwetschgendatschi (plum cake) made from regional fruit!

If the weather is bad, we recommend a visit to the local history museum, which offers an insight into the life of times gone by.

It is particularly nice in Metten at Christmas time, when the traditional Christmas market takes place and you can drink mulled wine and enjoy regional specialities.

Overall, Metten is definitely worth a visit and offers something for every taste. Whether culture, nature or culinary delights - everyone gets their money's worth here!

This gravel tour was a great adventure for us. We started the tour in Passau following the Donau to Regensburg. This gave us two days to to get us a little into it. It broke the part of the Donau into two, we ended the tour in 8 days in Passau. Instead of following the GPX we sometimes followed the indications of the official cycling tours to stay away from busy traffic.

Pausenempfehlung: Landgasthof Hacker in Zachenberg Bahnhofstraße 7.
