Geographically, Lienen is located between the Teutoburg Forest and the Ems River. The region offers a breathtaking natural setting with many hiking and cycling trails. The circular routes through the "Lienener Dünen" nature reserve are particularly recommended, where you can observe rare animal species such as bats and creeping snakes.

Lienen also has a lot to offer in terms of culture: The 17th century Surenburg Castle is a popular photo motif due to its magnificent architecture. In the St.Margareta Church you will find beautiful wall paintings as well as the oldest baptismal font in North Rhine-Westphalia from the 12th century.

For gourmets, there are numerous culinary highlights to discover in Lienen: be sure to try the famous "Lienener Schnittchen" - fresh bread with various spreads such as liver sausage or Mettbrötchen.

Visitors should also not miss the annual events, including the traditional Easter bonfire, the wine festival in summer and the Christmas market in winter.

If it rains, you can retreat to the Heimathaus - here you can learn more about the history of the town and admire historical objects.

Where is it most beautiful in Lienen? The park around Surenburg Castle offers an idyllic atmosphere for a walk or a picnic. The view of the surrounding area from the castle's tower is breathtaking.

Overall, Lienen is definitely worth a trip - whether you are interested in nature, culture or good food, you will find everything your heart desires here. Use this travel guide as inspiration for your next visit!

Great ride. 50% or more forest roads, 10 to 20% singletrack, the rest asphalt. Steep climbs and some technical downhills. The car park indicated is 2.5 km from the start with a steep asphalt road with lorries in-between. There are better alternatives nearer to the route start.
