Illertissen

Geographically, Illertissen is located on the western edge of the Allgäu and thus directly on the border with Baden-Württemberg. The town is crossed by the Iller river, which gives it its name, and thus offers wonderful opportunities for hiking or cycling along the river.

One of the tourist highlights is undoubtedly Illertissen Castle from the 18th century with its magnificent gardens and parks. The historic old town with its half-timbered houses and the Museum of Contemporary History are also worth a visit.

Cultural highlights come in the form of numerous events such as the traditional carnival procession or the Christmas market on the market square. Music lovers should also make a note of the Jazz Spring in April.

Those seeking culinary adventures will also get their money's worth here: Many restaurants serve regional specialities, including hearty dishes such as Kässpatzen or Maultaschen.

In summer, outdoor activities such as canoeing on the Iller or hiking through the surrounding forests and fields are particularly appealing. In winter, on the other hand, there are cross-country skiing tours around the nearby Grünten.

But even in bad weather, no one has to do without Illertissen: You can spend time in comfort in the town library or at the cinema.
