Gielert is located amidst picturesque vineyards and offers a breathtaking view of the Moselle valley. The surrounding area is characterised by rolling hills, forests and rivers - ideal for outdoor activities such as hiking or cycling.

One of the most famous sights in the region is Lieser Castle, which towers high above the village of the same name. Here, visitors can not only learn about the history of the castle, but also enjoy a fantastic view of the Moselle.

Culturally, Gielert also has a lot to offer: Wittlich hosts the annual Culture and Wine Festival - an event with live music, art exhibitions and regional specialities from the kitchen & cellar. Another highlight is the numerous winegrowers' festivals along the Moselle during the harvest season in autumn.

Those who like to sample culinary delicacies will also find what they are looking for here: The regional cuisine is characterised by hearty dishes such as Saumagen (pig's stomach) or Leberknödel (liver dumplings) - accompanied by the best wines directly from the surrounding vineyards!

Even when the weather is bad, there are plenty of opportunities for leisure activities in Gielert: the Wittlich town museum houses interesting exhibits on the town's history as well as an art gallery. Or how about a relaxing wellness break in one of the many thermal baths in the region?

The best time to visit Gielert is in spring or autumn: At this time of year, the temperatures are mild and pleasant - perfect for long walks through the vineyards or bike tours along the banks of the Moselle.

Gielert is a destination that is definitely worth a visit! With this Travel Guide, you have all the important information at hand to plan your stay in the best possible way. We wish you an unforgettable time in Gielert- Bernkastel-Wittlich!

Also Wegzehrung mitnehmen. Wer draussen schlafen will findet hier immer gute Spots.

We've walked this route from Mainz to Trier, in July 2020 in 7 days. It was warm (hot) and sunny, and we went through vineyards, forests, fields and small villages, just a nice variety of landscapes. It was also really quiet, almost no other hikers. Mainz is a really nice city to start from, and to end in beautiful Roman Trier is also great. I'd really recommend this route.
