Discover the region

Freudenburg is best known for its medieval castle complex, which is perched on a hill and offers spectacular views of the surrounding area. The castle was built in the 13th century and today houses a museum with an impressive collection of historical artefacts.

Another highlight in Freudenburg is Thorn Castle, a magnificent 18th century baroque castle with beautiful gardens and parks for walking or picnicking.

For culture lovers, there are numerous museums to discover, such as the Trier-Saarburg City Museum or the Mainz State Museum. Theatre performances or concerts can also be attended.

Culinary Freudenburg also has a lot to offer: Be sure to try the famous Saumagen (a kind of stuffed pork bladder) or enjoy delicious wines from the region at a cosy wine evening.

For those who like to be active, there is hiking, cycling or canoeing here - the tours along the Saar River are particularly beautiful in spring and summer. In winter, ski areas around the Erbeskopf invite you to go skiing and snowboarding.

Even when the weather is bad, there is plenty to do in Freudenburg: Visit the indoor swimming pool or relax in the spa. Or visit the impressive Basilica of St. Peter, one of the oldest churches in Germany.

Overall, Freudenburg is definitely worth a visit - whether for a day trip or a longer stay. With this travel guide, you have all the important information about this charming town on the Saar at a glance!

Tolle Tour.
