Culture & History
Eggesin has a long history: the town was first mentioned in documents in 1216, when the Slavic settlement was called "Gizin" according to sources. The Heimatstube Eggesin in Bahnhofstraße offers a compact introduction to the town's history. It displays exhibits, written and pictorial documents on the history of the village and town, the timber and brick industry, barge shipping and Eggesin's time as a garrison town.
The cultural offerings also include the KulturWerkstatt on the Vierseitenhof with courses, readings, concerts, theater and film events as well as the Blaubeerscheune, where regional products and Pomeranian specialties are offered. Those interested in regional water and economic history will find information on barge navigation on the Szczecin Lagoon at the Kahnschifferzentrum on the Randow. The Eggesin Military History and Technical Museum also commemorates the military history of the site.
Outdoor & nature experience
The circular hiking trail around Lake Eggesin is particularly interesting for hikers. The route is around 11.5 kilometers long and leads through a natural area with information boards about animals, protected plants and trees. Rest areas and a viewing platform also make the route attractive for nature observers. Today, Lake Eggesin is largely a silted-up moor; the area has been designated an FFH and bird sanctuary.
Cyclists will also find a variety of tours around Eggesin. The town also offers guided cycling and hiking tours in the "Am Stettiner Haff" nature park and the surrounding region. According to the tourism association, the landscape is flat and densely wooded - good conditions for relaxed cycling tours and longer nature excursions.
If you want to get out on the water, you can experience the river landscape on the Randow and Uecker rivers by canoe, pedal boat or raft; there are corresponding offers at Eggesin harbor or from local providers. The nature park station at Eggesin train station provides information about the flora and fauna of the nature park and also offers guided hikes during the season.
Conclusion
Eggesin is not a classic seaside or city resort, but a destination for travelers looking for nature, regional history and quiet activities. Between moorland, forest, river landscape and Szczecin Lagoon, the town combines easily accessible outdoor experiences with small, authentic cultural sites. Eggesin is particularly suitable for hikers, cyclists, nature watchers and anyone who wants to get to know the quieter side of Western Pomerania.
