Relaxed route along the Berlin-Usedom cycle route, mostly well signposted with the well-known logo (see picture 6).
To still count as a "route in the Berlin surroundings," you have to get up early: the first train of the day departs around 04:00 from Berlin-Gesundbrunnen, from there initially with the S-Bahn to Bernau, where you change to the slow train to Stralsund. Arrival in Anklam is just before 07:00. Later connections start every 2 hours.

Roadbook
From Anklam station, you can take a quick tour around town, but the city is small and not very attractive. So, if you head straight east on the Berlin-Usedom cycle route, you won’t miss anything...
After about a kilometer, you leave Anklam and ride east over the fields until you reach the "Anklamer Fähre" where you meet the (Peene) river that separates Usedom island from the mainland. The ferry crossing over the river is actually about 2 km further east. In summer months, there is a ferry connection from Kamp to Karnin on Usedom. However, I was there too early at the end of March and had to be content with a quick look across to Usedom.
Then you continue initially southwards along the water with views of the deadwood forest of the Anklamer Stadtbruch nature reserve.
The path to Ueckermünde then leads along beautiful paths over fields or forest edges. Unfortunately, along this route, you cannot see the Szczecin Lagoon. Only in Mönkebude can you briefly detour to the water.
Up to Eggesin, the route follows the L28, which is acceptable. Up to Torgelow, you then ride on secluded paths through the forest.
On the section from Torgelow to Viereck, you are for about 10 km squeezed between military training areas: entry is strictly prohibited.
Alongside the busy L321 country road, you ride up to just before Pasewalk, which the Berlin-Usedom cycle route bypasses from the north and west. Pasewalk is another small town, which surely had an eventful past but today looks very bleak. The few historic buildings are wedged into loveless and partly decaying Eastern architecture.
About 3 km behind Pasewalk, you leave the B109 in Rollwitz and turn east onto a field path, crossing the A20 motorway. Until Schmarsow, the path continues on quite muddy ground.
The onward route through smaller villages leads on quiet side roads or little-used country roads to Prenzlau. Here, I leave the Berlin-Usedom cycle route, which normally leads on the west side of the Lower Uckersee to Seehausen. Instead, I take the route around the east side of the lake, riding directly along the shore to the turnoff to Seelübbe.
Now it continues via Bertikow and Hohengüstow on field paths and with a short stretch on a country road crossing the A11 motorway to arrive in Gramzow.

Equipment
A normal touring bike is completely sufficient for this route. The path is (almost) rideable everywhere. Only the section from the A20 crossing to Schmarsow was very muddy. In rain, the paths along the northern Stettiner Haff are probably difficult to ride but can be avoided by using the parallel road.Localization
