Geographically, both towns are located in the federal state of Saarland and are surrounded by numerous forests and rivers. The region is known for its picturesque landscapes with rolling hills and green valleys.

Dillingen/Saar is best known as a university town. Here, visitors can discover a variety of cultural highlights, such as the Historical Museum or the impressive baroque building of the St. Johann Basilica. The city also has a lot to offer in the way of culinary delights: Be sure to try Saarland specialities such as Lyon sausage or Schwenker (marinated pork).

Saarlouis, on the other hand, is famous for its 17th-century fortifications. A tour of the historic old town takes visitors past numerous sights, including the Renaissance-style town hall or the Ludwigskirche with its magnificent dome.

Throughout the year, both towns regularly host events - from wine festivals to jazz festivals, there is always something to celebrate here! For outdoor activities, summer is a particularly good time: Hike along one of the many hiking trails through the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park or explore the popular Saar Cycle Path along the river by bike.

And what to do in bad weather? In Dillingen/Saar it is worth visiting the cinema or the Saarland Therme, an adventure pool with numerous wellness offers. In Saarlouis, you can take a look at the Museum of Contemporary and Industrial History or play a game of bowling.

But the best thing about these towns is their relaxed atmosphere and the warm hospitality of their inhabitants. A destination that is definitely worth a trip! Use our Travel Guide to help you plan your next trip to Germany!
