Blankenberg is idyllically situated on the banks of the River Sieg and surrounded by rolling hills. The town has a long history as an important trading centre and is known for its well-preserved medieval buildings. Visit Blankenberg Castle, once the seat of the Counts of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, or stroll through the narrow streets of the historic town centre with its half-timbered houses dating back to the 16th century.

Cultural highlights include the Museum Haus Schlesien and the Blankenberg Museum of Local History. Here you can learn more about the local culture and history of the region.

For outdoor fans, there are numerous opportunities for hiking, cycling or canoeing along the river Sieg or through the nearby Bergisches Land Nature Park. In winter, the Hohe Acht skiing area with its pistes and cross-country ski runs also beckons.

Blankenberg also has a lot to offer in the way of culinary delights: Be sure to try the regional specialities such as Rievkooche (potato pancakes), spit-roast from the grill or fresh trout from the river.

If the weather is bad, it is worth visiting the leisure pool Aggua Troisdorf or the cinema Cineplex Troisdorf nearby.

It is particularly beautiful in Blankenberg in spring and summer time, when everything is in bloom and nature awakens to new life. But the region also has its charm in autumn with colourful forests and cosy wine festivals.

Overall, Blankenberg is definitely worth a trip, whether for a day trip or as a longer holiday destination. This travel guide offers you all the tips you need for an unforgettable stay in this picturesque town on the river Sieg.
