Bad Hindelang in the Ostrachtal: Six districts play together.

Bad Hindelang is surrounded by five smaller villages, each with its own special charm.

Bad Hindelang itself is the organizational and cultural center with its Kurhaus, town hall, bus station and tourist information office. Only 2 km away, Vorderhindelang, situated on a south-facing slope, offers a veritable sun terrace for beautiful walks.

Bad Oberdorf invites you to linger with its spa and pub facilities as well as picturesque, small farmhouses. The traditional and legendary Hinterstein at the head of the Ostrachtal valley is the starting point for many mountain and climbing tours in the lofty heights of the Allgäu Alps.

The Jochstraße road with its 100 bends takes you from Bad Hindelang to Oberjoch and Unterjoch. Oberjoch is considered the highest mountain and ski village in Germany at 1200 m above sea level. The very family-friendly skiing and hiking area is characterized by ultra-modern mountain railroads and still impresses with its rustic charm.

If you are looking for a vacation on a farm, Unterjoch is just the place for you. Between cows, horses and chickens, you will quickly fall in love with the natural landscape of the Allgäu!

Craftsmanship and tradition

The municipality of Bad Hindelang is characterized by a variety of crafts and valuable traditions. It is rare to find areas today where traditional crafts are still practiced in this way. Whether shingle makers, alphorn makers, sledge makers, sculptors or master blacksmiths - these trades are deeply rooted in Bad Hindelang and are usually passed down from generation to generation. Contemporary arts and crafts in the form of paintings can be discovered in Kilian Lipp's gallery. Equally interesting are the wooden objects created by Christoph Finkel.

Tradition in Bad Hindelang is worn by men in the form of lederhosen, green bodice, Haferl shoes and a Gemsbart hat and by women in dirndls. Accordion or double bass is played, dialect is sung, yodeled or spoken. Whether at weddings, family celebrations or village festivals, the traditional costume is still very popular with the locals. So it's no wonder that the mountain costume association "d'Ostrachtaler", founded in 1900, enjoys cult status. The well-known "Harmoniemusik Hindelang" has been around since 1836 - a concert is well worth a visit!

Culinary delights and enjoyment

The municipality of Bad Hindelang also has plenty of culinary delights to offer, from the typical Allgäu "Kässpatzen" (cheese patties) to a delicious hut snack and Kaiserschmarrn pancakes, there is something for everyone.

Bad Hindelang's alpine farming, which has been an intangible cultural heritage since 2015, makes a major contribution. The grazing of the brown cows on the mountain meadows naturally contributes to the best quality of Bad Hindelang's natural products. These can then be processed into tasty, regional and high-quality dishes in the numerous huts and alps in the mountains, as well as in the restaurants in the valley. You should definitely not miss out on this!
