Geographically, Altenkirchen and Kusel are both located in the picturesque landscape of the Westrich. The region is characterised by rolling hills, idyllic rivers and forests as well as numerous historic villages.

One of the tourist attractions is Berwartstein Castle, a medieval castle dating back to the 12th century. It is one of the best-preserved castles in the Palatinate Forest and offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding area.

Another highlight for those interested in culture is the Pachen Museum, which deals with the history of the Westrich. Here you can learn a lot about local agriculture or marvel at old craftsmanship.

For culinary specialities, it is highly recommended to pay a visit to the local winegrowers - here you can taste wines and buy them directly from the producer. There are also regional specialities to discover: why not try Saumagen (a type of stuffed pork stomach) or Debbekooche (potato pancakes).

The best outdoor activities can vary depending on the season: In summer, you can go hiking or cycling; in winter, skiing is tempting at the nearby Potzberg ski area. Whatever the season, a walk through the Palatinate Forest is always a good idea.

For rainy days, a visit to the monte mare Kusel leisure pool is a good idea - here you can go swimming and take a sauna or just relax.

Altenkirchen and Kusel are definitely places to discover and experience. With this travel guide, you now have the most important information for a successful stay in the region. We hope you have fun discovering!
