The Cottian Alps: a breathtaking landscape on the border between Italy and France
The Cottian Alps are almost equally divided between Italy and France and extend from the Maddalena Pass (1,996 m), which separates them from the Maritime Alps, to the Mont Cenis Pass (2,084 m), which divides them from the Graian Alps. On the Italian side, it covers a large part of the southwestern area of Piedmont. Between alpine lakes, green valleys, and mountains of various heights, the Cottian Alps region offers a very varied landscape to discover.

The 'Stone King': Monviso
Located just 2 km from the French border, the Monviso (3,841 meters) is the highest mountain of the Cottian Alps and also known as the "Stone King" for its imposing size compared to the surrounding peaks. It is so high that it is visible from the western Po Valley and, on extremely clear days, even from the spires of the Milan Cathedral! Its name, which derives from the Latin "Mons Vesulus," means precisely 'well-visible and isolated mountain.' Its shape resembles that of an Egyptian pyramid (it is said that the peak of the American film company Paramount was inspired by it for its logo).
Outdoor adventures in the Cottian Alps region
