Lake Constance with children
Along the 270 km long shore of Lake Constance, families will be in their element. Of course, the first thing that attracts young and old is the water, where one can cool off and swim in one of the many lidos, go boating or stand-up paddling.
But there is much more to experience than the lake itself. For example, the flower island of Mainau with its blooming works of art and butterfly house. The ferry ride to the island alone is an event. Especially in spring, when thousands of flowers bloom in the extensive gardens, the crossing is worth it. The island of Mainau is served from all major ports on the shores of Lake Constance.
Or you can marvel at the more than 200 Barbary macaques and other animals on the "Affenberg Salem (Salem Monkey Mountain), visit the Zeppelin Museum in Friedrichshafen or feel almost transported back to the Neolithic Age at the Uhldingen pile dwellings. Castles and palaces, museums and zoos, adventure parks and themed hiking trails - it's not easy to decide where to go next!
Those arriving with a camper van will find many beautiful campsites with lake access at Lake Constance, but there is also a wide range of hotels and vacation apartments. If you want to explore the rural hinterland of Lake Constance, take a vacation on a farm!
Experience nature and culture around Lake Constance
Are you drawn to the outdoors? Then head for Lake Constance. The warm climate and generally good weather around the lake make for perfect conditions for hiking, biking and water sports. The classic is the three to four day round trip on the Lake Constance bike path, but there are also plenty of shorter routes and hikes to discover. Between orchards and lush meadows you can enjoy the sun - plus, on the south side of Lake Constance, it's not far to the Alps!
For culture lovers, the lake has the right sightseeing spot for every taste. Proud churches and historic buildings such as the Birnau Basilica or Meersburg Castle magically attract visitors. Exciting museums such as the pile-dwelling museum in Unteruhldingen (Unesco World Heritage Site!) or the Zeppelin Museum in Friedrichshafen should not be missing from any vacation plan, just like the popular flower island Mainau.
