East Styria

The tourism region of East Styria is located east of the Mur and south of the Fischbach Alps. Also known as the garden of Austria, the region impresses with its variety of blooming alpine pastures, enchanted show gardens, and charming garden castles. The romantic flower villages lie between orchards and vineyards. Magnificent castles watch over the surroundings and add extra charm to the region.

Outdoor activities in East Styria

The Styrian Flower Route immerses holidaymakers in the enchanting natural landscape. 40 km north of Graz, nature lovers can hike through extensive alpine pastures and learn more about the apple tradition in East Styria along the Apple Hiking Trail. Mountain bikers can climb high into the mountain world of the Fischbach Alps. Excellent recreational opportunities are also available for climbers, riders, and golf enthusiasts. The beautiful lakes and leisure pools invite you to cool off in the high summer. The small ski resorts with their cozy atmosphere make the winter holiday with the family a special experience.

    Der Kardinal-Nagl-Steig war Stand 2025 durchaus auffindbar, begehbar und sehr schön, wenn man die Ameisenhaufen etwas umschifft. Siehe hier: https://out.ac/IaNVuB In der OSM sollte der aktuelle Wegverlauf gut passen. Die Überschreitung der Pfaffen ist ebenfalls ein Highlight, gerade auch geologisch, was man auf den ersten Blick nicht erwartet. Aussicht vom Großen Pfaff ebenfalls grandios. Den Weg hinauf beim Großen Pfaffenbach haben wir nicht wirklich gefunden, oder er ist im Frühling sehr zugewachsen. Umgehung über die Pfaffenalm. Man sollte sich vom Pfaffensattel nicht direkt südlich zu den Windlöchern verirren, außer natürlich man mag und traut sich abenteuerliche Kraxelei zu. Wenn man die Windlöcher sehen will, kann man (ebenfalls schon abenteuerlich genug) sich diesen auf dem Steig, der von Süden her kommt nähern und dies von Oben bestaunen, bevor man sich vollständig auf den Kardinal-Nagl-Steig begibt.
