The Grünkopf, often white in winter, can also be climbed during winter. Provided one does not go right after fresh snow, the trail is usually well-trampled. On the ascent and descent, you pass the mountain inn Ederkanzel, which lies directly on the German-Austrian border. This is also worth visiting as its own destination for a more leisurely winter hike (Duration approx. 2.5 hours). The use of crampons is recommended!

The Violin Making Museum is hidden on the return path immediately to the left behind the church and showcases the over 300-year-old violin making tradition of the area. It is open daily except Monday from 11 am to 4 pm, until mid-March from 10 am to 5 pm.

Roadbook
From the station forecourt, keep left and walk south close to the tracks. After a parking lot, turn right and then right along the sports field into the footpath. Walk past the schools and along Waldschmidtweg to Dekan-Karl-Platz. Briefly left, then Adolf-Baader-Straße leads right, then Frühlingstraße left to the spa park. Here starts the signage to Ederkanzel: right before the park, then left uphill to the street. Follow it to the right for about 400 meters, then the climb to Ederkanzel begins on a partly steeper, usually cleared and gritted forest road. After about 30 minutes, just before the mountain inn, the path to Grünkopf branches off to the right. The trail leads up and down over the ridge (national border), crosses a gravel road, and soon climbs moderately steeply in many switchbacks up to the cross with benches. The same trail leads down, at the bottom towards Ederkanzel. At the crossing gravel road, follow the trail straight ahead and return to the forest road. To the right it takes a few minutes to the mountain inn, otherwise left along the path down. Soon turn left („Lautersee 0:15“). At the bottom cross the road and descend left to the lakeshore. Along it leads to Lautersee-Alm and chapel. Before that, follow the signage right towards Mittenwald and always in the direction of Kranzberg chairlift. It goes slightly uphill, then along the ridge trail to Steingarten. A little further, turn right towards Mittenwald and descend in steep switchbacks (in case of ice, detour straight ahead via the chairlift valley station). In town, keep going downhill, then to the church. From there, Hochstraße leads right to Bahnhofstraße back to the station.
