Safety information
Use of hiking trails and information on this website is at your own risk. On-site conditions may cause route changes. Grächen and St. Niklaus tourism and businesses assume no responsibility for the accuracy and completeness of the information on this website.
For all hikes:
- Carry a map with you. Download the complete trail description with a large-scale map by clicking "Print" at the top right of the page.
- Use only marked trails and observe all signs and instructions—for your own safety, to protect grazing animals, and out of respect for wildlife.
- Close gates after passing through.
- Be considerate towards other trail users, plants, and animals.
For mountain hikes:
- Carry additional sunscreen. UV rays at high altitude can be very strong, even on cloudy days.
- Plan your hike carefully: consider the fitness level of all participants, weather forecasts, and seasonal dependencies.
- Weather conditions in the mountains can change quickly and without warning. Appropriate clothing and sufficient provisions (food and drink) are very important. In unstable weather, it is better to turn back early.
For high alpine hikes:
- Inform your family about your hiking route. If possible, avoid going alone.
- Do not enter glaciers without a mountain guide.
- Observe warning signs indicating dangers at riverbanks, along watercourses below dams and reservoirs: Water levels can rise quickly and without warning.
Roadbook
The gently ascending hike begins in the center of the village of Grächen and follows the paved road over the sunny section Egga. A few meters past the chapel at Egga near the small-caliber shooting range, the path continues to the right, gently ascending to the Kneipp facility Taa. Then follow the trail markings to Bärgji.
