To Jäätiö lean-to by stand-up paddleboarding or paddling 1.3/2.6 km, Vuokatti-Sotkamo
The paddling trip from Katinkulla to the Jäätiönlahti lean-to is an adventure for the whole family. A narrow strait winding through the reed bed and passing under the bridge leads to the fine birdwatching waters of Jäätiönlampi.
A short, easy stand-up paddleboarding and paddling route takes you from Katinkulla beach to Jäätiönlampi. At the halfway point of the leisurely trip, you can land for a snack break at the lean-to. You can also easily reach the lean-to on foot or by bike, in case not everyone fits in the boat.
Jäätiönlahti is a relatively sheltered bay, but some winds can create slight side waves. The water is shallow in the channel passing through the reed bed, and the water area is narrow.
Note that the jetty at Jäätiönlampi is not an official paddling jetty, and many waterfowl use the jetty as a lookout and resting place (so it is sometimes somewhat messy).
Author’s recommendation
You can paddle around Jäätiönlampi, admiring and circumnavigating the shores before detouring to the lean-to.

Tips and suggestions
You can conveniently access the water route, for example, from Katinkulla beach or beside the boat dock, from Hotel Vuokatti's shore, or from Vuokatinmaa shore. The route mostly runs in the sheltered bay of Jäätiönlahti, turning towards Jäätiönlampi.
Roadbook
From Katinkulla beach, head east towards Vuokatinvaarat. Soon the reed bed on the shore grows denser and reaches further from the shore. From the middle of this reed bed, a narrow channel begins which turns into a strait connecting Lake Jäätiönlahti and Jäätiönlampi. Paddle under the wooden bridge to the pond. The Jäätiö lean-to is on the isthmus, and the jetty is about a hundred meters past the mouth of the creek on the right.
