The Recknitz provides habitat for many animal and plant species and therefore forms an exciting backdrop for a canoe trip across the Fischland-Darß-Zingst region. The almost 90-kilometer-long river originates north of the town of Teterow and flows from there past the towns of Bad Sülze and Marlow towards Ribnitz-Damgarten, where it flows into the Bodden. From Bad Sülze, the Recknitz is allowed to meander through the landscape and follow its natural river course. If you plan for 3 days, you can cover the 32 kilometers from there to the lagoons of the Baltic Sea and experience a lot of nature. Waterway rest areas are located in Tessin, Bad Sülze, Marlow, and Damgarten, as well as bivouac sites in Pantlitz and Daskow.

    Author’s recommendation

If you are planning a one-day route, it is best to start from Bad Sülze or Marlow and paddle either upstream or downstream.

    Roadbook

For the first stage, start from the Marlow canoe and boat rental (at the waterway rest area directly at the Recknitz bridge Marlow on the L 18 between Marlow and Semlow). Downstream, it is 13 or 16 kilometers towards Pantlitz or Daskow. In the Lower Recknitz Valley nature reserve, where you are currently located, nature is allowed to be nature, and you can enjoy the untouched forest and moor landscape of the region. Please note that the banks may not be entered here. In Pantlitz you will find the first possible stop for the evening. The rest area is secluded and quiet but only has a landing stage, a bench, and a meadow. About 3 km further you will find the bivouac site in Daskow, which can also be targeted as a stage goal.

The next day you have about 6 kilometers of river ahead of you. The landscape changes now as the Recknitz widens. You can already see the church tower of Damgarten from afar. When you reach the railway bridge over the river, you have to turn right after about 200 m into the harbor of Damgarten. There you will find a waterway rest area with showers and camping opportunities. From here you can use the rental service's transport and get picked up.
