Around the island of Reichenau
A canoe tour for beginners: Canoers stay near the shore, except for the start, see much of the island of Reichenau and especially water animals. The route passes by the Bruckgraben in the Wollmatinger Ried nature reserve. The reed and marsh shore is a breeding and retreat area for numerous water birds, so please keep your distance and do not disturb. Due to the proximity to land, it is almost always possible to go ashore to take a break, change seats, or swim.
The churches of Reichenau invite you to visit. Each of the three World Heritage churches houses a small museum, which opens from about 10 a.m. www.reichenau-tourismus.de

If there is strong wind, the route must be canceled.
Be careful at the Reichenau ferry dock: always face the bow of the boat into the waves coming from the scheduled shipping, do not stand sideways to the waves!
Roadbook
The route starts at the ferry landing in Allensbach. Alternatively, the route can also start at Sandseele Reichenau near the campsite. First, you cross the Gnadensee to the island of Reichenau. For navigation, you should use the Münster St. Maria and Markus. Before the Herrenbruck marina, turn northwest and head for the western end of the island. You pass by the beach.
From the canoe, you can see the church of St. Peter and Paul and the holiday home "Bürgle" (Windeck Castle). In front of the holiday home there is a possibility to land and visit the church in Niederzell. The Sandseele campsite at the northwest tip of the island is a good spot for a short break. In the garden restaurant, you can refresh yourself for the onward journey.
The route continues south around the Elcherleshorn to the ferry dock in Mittelzell. Now paddle along the Ermatinger Basin. It is one of the most important bird resting places in Central Europe. Please keep a suitable distance to avoid disturbing the birds. Through the Bruckgraben, you return to the Gnadensee. On the right side, you see the life-size statue of Saint Pirmin, the founder of the Reichenau Abbey. Passing the church of St. Georg (landing possible at the jetty below the church; the church is only open with public guided tours at 12:30 and 16:00 from May to September), you head back to the Herrenbruck marina. From there, you cross the Gnadensee back to your starting point.
