Pirknerklamm

The best starting point is the bridge on the main road between Unter- and Oberpirkach (parking + info point). From here, walk along the eastern bank of the Pirkner Bach upstream along a forest path until after about 10 minutes you reach the start of the via ferrata at the Pirkach mills. Right at the beginning, a rock block (C) poses the first test for the climber. Those having problems here should turn back. A later emergency exit is not possible. The gorge quickly narrows and becomes more threatening. Accompanied by the roaring water, you climb continuously at difficulty (C) up to the distinctive Rainbow Waterfall. Once overcome, follows a short walking section and a stream crossing, until just before the second weir there is another difficult spot (C). To the right (in walking direction) of the weir, climb up in easy terrain (A/B) and leave the gorge. A steep hiking path leads back to the valley floor and you walk west along the Pirkner Bach back to the starting point.
