Trailrunners can look forward to many meters of elevation combined with excellent views. This trail offers everything a trailrunner desires: steep ascents and descents, passages through cool forest, and alpine paths along mountain lakes.

For those who like steep routes, start in Campascio, warm up along the route of the Rhaetian Railway to Campocologno, and ascend 900 meters over 5 km in the cool mixed forest towards Lughina next to the church of Campocologno. A well-runnable traverse leads to the next climb at Rossat.

From Rossat, it's uphill again, 730 meters of elevation gain in the coniferous forest to Col d’Anzana at the Italian border with wonderful views into the Valtellina. Now we have reached the tree line: a short somewhat exposed section and another ascent leads to the lakes Lagh da la Regina (Lake of the Queen) and Lagh dal Mat (Lake of the Mad) and thus to the highest point after a total of 19 km at 2526 meters above sea level.

From here, 12 km on good paths lead down about 1900 meters of elevation loss to Campascio or Campocologno. For those less keen on elevation, the post bus from Brusio to/from Cavaglione at 1300 m above sea level can be taken, saving about 700 meters of ascent and 2 hours uphill or 1 hour downhill. Please note: the post bus (Publicar Val Poschiavo) can only be used with prior reservation.

The only refreshment options on the route are at Alp Pescia Bassa (after 12 km) and at Rifugio Ansana (after 14 km), but only when the shepherds are present. It is therefore advisable to bring your own provisions. Water can be refilled at the streams.
