Lavaredo 20k
A relatively short but challenging route, with more than 1000m of elevation gain
A 20 km route with 1,000 m of positive elevation gain that allows you to experience the thrill of running along the course of the Lavaredo 20k race, starting from the center of Cortina and climbing to the panoramic Forcella Zumeles before returning to Cortina through the Larieto larch forest.
From the center of Cortina, take the Dolomites Cycle Path, the former railway, heading north towards Dobbiaco and continue for a few kilometers towards Fiames. Just before reaching the Fiames sports center, take trail no. 218 which will lead you to the base of Mount Pomagagnon along an uphill path, partly through the forest. Once at the foot of the imposing Pomagagnon, continue to follow the trail towards Monte Cristallo, until you reach trail no. 211. Continue further until you reach trail 204 which will take you up the steep switchbacks leading to the summit of the panoramic Forcella Zumeles. From the pass, you can admire from above the entire Ampezzana basin, surrounded 360 degrees by some of the most beautiful Dolomite peaks: Becco di Mezzodì, Croda da Lago, Pelmo, Cinque Torri, and Tofane.
From here, continue to the right towards the Cristallo ski slopes along trail 205. On your left, you can admire the majestic Monte Cristallo, the Staunies gully and Forcella Staunies, and the characteristic Son Forca refuge. From here, the descent begins, first along the winter ski slope and then for a stretch through the forest along trail 206 towards El Brite de Larieto. Having reached the farm stay, continue into the enchanting Larieto larch forest up to Rifugio Mietres where you can once again admire a delightful view of the Ampezzana basin and Pomagagnon. Continue the descent along trail 204 towards Col Tondo-Chiamulera-Guargnè until you reach the Dolomites cycle path again.
From here, you will be back in the center of Cortina in a few minutes.
