Kammersteiner Hut trail with Josefswarte
Moderate trail running route with 300 meters of elevation gain on wonderful single trails... also very suitable for hiking; please adjust your times accordingly...
The short but tough route runs mostly on lonely single trails, interrupted by short sections on forest roads. The route is varied and never boring. A good sense of direction is an advantage since you can quickly miss a turnoff. The highest point is reached at the rear Föhrenberg with the Josefswarte as a great viewpoint. Running the final ascent to the highest point of the watchtower is certainly a highlight of the route. The beautiful Kammersteiner Hut is located right next to the Josefswarte and always invites you to rest and recharge.
Author’s recommendation
Kammersteiner Hut and Josefswarte with a wonderful view in good weather.
Shortly after the start, there is a great, difficult geocache to find. It is a "true" T5, the highest difficulty in terms of terrain. Without climbing equipment (throw rope, etc.), there's not much to get here.
With poles, the run becomes Nordic Running and is always a good alternative.

Roadbook
We leave the parking lot heading towards Kuheide and immediately turn right at the sports field into the beautiful green avenue towards the quarry. It's very pleasant for warming up, as it first goes straight for a long time and later slightly downhill. Passing the quarry, we run towards the tennis courts, then past them towards Andacht. From now on until the Kammersteiner Hut it only goes uphill. After the Frog King, we leave the forest path again and reach the final ascent to the hut and up to the viewing platform of the watchtower. After the hut, we follow the Viennese pilgrim path, which we leave repeatedly to continue on single trails. At km 6.4, don't miss the turnoff to the right towards Finsterer Gang. After about 1 km, we leave the forest path and turn left into Finsterer Gang. One last beautiful trail, sprinkled with many fallen trees, climbs steeply upwards. Past the Nemecek Hut (unmanaged), it goes back to the parking lot.
