Leipziger Volkszeitung
We meet on Hans-Oster-Strasse. Rémy looks skeptical, maybe he's just hungover from his first birthday party. With the baby jogger we roll downhill. Mama Baier occasionally switches the pushing arm to avoid one-sided strain. Thus we move under the glances of surprised drivers on Georg-Schumann-Strasse down Wiederitzscher and quickly have a kilometer behind us. Then it goes along Möckernsche Strasse past the swimming hall and zigzag through Pölitz-, Marbach-, Weinlig- and Stallbaumstrasse. Of course, this is also an ideal starting point, because the traffic noise first dies down and Leipzig shows its green side.
At kilometer two, we turn onto the park path into Rosental and soon pass the animal shelter. Rémy makes no move to fall asleep in view of the continuous barking, but swings uncomplainingly when crossing the cobblestone street to the sewage treatment plant. We are at kilometer three at Leutzscher Allee and now keep right. At the fork, we go left along the water, and soon the roundabout in front of the Olympic base appears. Just before the bridge it's four kilometers.
Rémy murmurs softly "Mamm, mamm" and crumbles his cookie.
From Hans-Driesch-Strasse we turn right at Friesenstrasse into the forest. After another 100 meters, five kilometers are behind us. Then the path leads past a garden complex to a fork where we keep right and cross two marked red-white posts.
Kilometer six is just before the Nahle bridge, from which Rémy marvels at the flowing water. The tour continues through the garden complexes, over a wooden bridge over Neue Luppe and then left under a railway underpass. On the other side we keep right again towards the gardens and slowly ascend: kilometer seven.
At Kirschbergstrasse, we must turn right again with the baby jogger. 100 meters before the swimming hall it is eight kilometers. Now the path goes uphill again. Kilometer nine waits in front of the railway bridge. Another 600 meters – then we are at the finish line. Will Rémy also jog later? "He has to decide that himself," says Angelika Baier. Rémy grins from his carriage. His shining eyes seem to say: Just wait, buddy, someday we'll see each other again on this track...
