Cortina Trail
A circular route through the most enchanting areas of Cortina
A 48 km circular route that starts and ends at Corso Italia in Cortina. The route includes enchanting areas such as the Tofane, the Cinque Torri, and the Croda da Lago, with a positive elevation gain of 2,727 m.
Starting from the center of Cortina, follow the SS 51 towards Dobbiaco and continue towards Cadin until you reach trail 416/409 heading to Passo Posporcora, at the foot of Col Rosà. Here you will be inside the pristine forest of the Dolomiti d’Ampezzo Natural Park.
Heading down, take trails 401 and 404 and climb along the long and wild Val Travenanzes for several kilometers. On your left, you will have the Tofane Group and on your right first the Vallon Bianco and then the Fanis Group.
Continue along the valley until Forcella Col dei Bos, where you can enjoy a stunning view: from Croda da Lago and Cinque Torri to the Marmolada. Continue downhill along trail 402 and then take trail 423 with a left turn to Rifugio Col Gallina.
From here, cross the road and descend along trail 424, then take trail 440 towards 5 Torri. Continue climbing to the characteristic Rifugio Averau, located between Monte Averau and Monte Nuvolau. From there, descend along the dirt road until the left turn onto trail 452, which you follow up to Passo Giau, where you can admire the Ampezzo Basin and the surrounding mountains.
Cross the road to take trail 436 towards Forcella Giau and Forcella Ambrizzola, continue on trail 434 crossing the wild Mondeval Valley to Croda da Lago, with its characteristic refuge and enchanting Lago Federa. From here take trail 431 towards Lago d’Ajal and then trail 428 leading to the characteristic Ladin village of Mortisa before descending to Cortina.
