When wounds become miracles - RWW 10
The hike is rich in sights. You cross the former inner-German border, now the Hesse-Thuringia border, into the thousand-year-old Herleshausen with its pretty half-timbered houses and the Catholic Thanksgiving Grotto. Somewhat hidden in the forest you find a Jewish cemetery and the Soviet war cemetery. This is thanks to a courageous mayor of Herleshausen. Also worth seeing is the museum in the border station for contemporary history at the Herleshausen station. Through the peaceful floodplain landscape of the Werra meanders, you soon return to the picturesque Lindenallee back to Lauchröden and the car park.
There are places to eat in Herleshausen and Lauchröden.

The hike begins at the car park of the Ruine Brandenburg. You walk west toward the village of Lauchröden and turn north at the second street (Herleshäuser Straße). At the edge of the village flows the Werra: the former border river between two world systems. In the middle of the "Bridge of Unity" is the border between Thuringia and Hesse. A plaque and a monument commemorate the former division of Germany. Along the Lindenallee you reach Herleshausen. The Catholic Thanksgiving Grotto is worth seeing there. Via Lauchröder Straße to the Anger. Follow Frauenbörner Straße to the swimming pool to the end of the sports facility. From there you ascend via X9 to the Jewish cemetery and the Soviet war cemetery. Information on site points out the uniqueness of this facility.
Following the paved road downhill you soon reach the underpass of the current federal motorway 4. Follow the road back into the village to the Hotel Gutsschänke. Shortly after, you reach the small, idyllic Herleshausen station with the Museum of Contemporary History. Through the underpass you return to the former border river. Through the peaceful floodplain landscape of the Werra meanders you soon return to the picturesque Lindenallee back to Lauchröden and to the car park.
