The Klitscherweg owes its name to a Saxon sweet dish similar to Quarkkeulchen, baked in linseed oil, which was brought to Weißig in 1821 by miners from Johanngeorgenstadt. The Klitscher, made of boiled potatoes, quark, flour, egg, sugar, and salt, was a tasty, inexpensive meal.

Besides magnificent views of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains and the hills of the Eastern Ore Mountains as well as the romantic Breiten Grund, the route is characterized by 43 large information boards lining the path, especially in the village area. These signs, additionally equipped with a code usable by visually impaired people, provide insights into the development of the place named Wizoch first mentioned in 1235. The time travel informs about the districts of Ober- and Unterweißig, shaped by agriculture and mining. There are stories about traders, craftsmen, farmers, miners, local politicians, outstanding athletes, and clubs who have shaped the place.

    Roadbook

From the starting point at the overview board, the hiking trail leads along the town boundary to the Opitzhöhe, where a wind turbine and a historic triangulation column stand. At the intersection, we turn left. When the path forks, we keep left. About 100 meters after the forest begins, the entrance to the Breiten Grund lies to the left. The path winds through the elongated and densely forested valley along a brook down to Deubener Weg. There, we turn sharply left and follow Deubener Weg back uphill via a hairpin bend to Weißig. After leaving the forest, there is a wonderful view of Freital and the Windberg. At the newly built "Biohof Klügel" there is an opportunity to rest during opening hours.

We follow Deubener Weg to the main street in Weißig and turn right there. After about 400 meters, we go right through a small settlement to an orchard meadow and soon after returning to the main street, reach the former König-Georg shaft, where a cider factory is now located. As soon as the Weißig forest begins, the path leads left to the Neuhäuser Weg. We follow it to the right until it becomes Talstraße in Oberdöhlen. At the marker, we go left again through the forest until shortly before Saalhausen, then continue above the Weißig brook. After about a kilometer, we turn left and come out between the sports field and a community garden settlement. We follow Zauckeroder Weg and Schulstraße towards the town center, then turn right into Juststraße. When it bends left after a few meters, we continue straight ahead and reach Steile Straße. We follow it left to Schäfereiweg, which we enter on the right. When we reach the town boundary again, we turn left and follow the path Zum Grund, keeping right. After another uphill stretch, we reach a shelter where one can take a final rest. Then, it's just a few steps back to the starting point.
