From the sports field in Kröppen, take an access road along the fields to a still very well-preserved "Lothringen Cross". Directly after the cross you must cross the K4, and the path runs over an orchard meadow. After a while, the path turns into a gravel road, which leads through a meadow into the forest. The path goes downhill for a while until it leaves the forest again in the valley. The route now runs flat and continues towards France. Past the Red Rock, you reach the German-French border. Crossing a small bridge, you cross the Trualbe and soon after cross the border. The smuggler path now leads over a field path into the French village of Walschbronn, where several typical French shops, gastronomy, and a castle ruin are located. Following the road, you reach the German-French border again via a gravel path and then a natural path. At the border, it is worth paying close attention to the historic border stones that appear at the edge of the path. Once back on the German side, after some time, you reach a forest playground with a small shelter where a rest is recommended. After that, it goes steeply uphill and follows the path to the shelter "Hexenhäuschen". Now follow the K4 for a few meters and then hike uphill into the forest on a gravel path. After a few meters of ascent, you reach a shelter where the source of the Laufersbach is located. Shortly after, you reach the village of Kröppen again and shortly thereafter the sports field, which is the starting point of the route.
