Follow the symbol of the cross and wayside shrine route
The starting point is the cemetery in Renchen-Ulm, with a start panel and route description. From there, heading towards Mösbach, after about 350 m at Sternebühlbuckel stands an old wayside shrine made of red sandstone, crafted in the early 19th century. The path then leads you through the orchards to Renchen-Ulm. After passing four more small monuments, you reach the parish church St. Mauritius. There are more small monuments around the parish church.
At the town exit towards Stadelhofen, at the fork between Oberkircher Straße and Appenweierer Straße stands the wayside cross of Magdalena Hause.
Follow the signposted path through the orchards and, after a small detour through the industrial area, walk along the Ulmer Dorfbach through Armenhöfestraße. There is the wayside shrine of Ida Welle. Passing through sparsely populated streets, you come past Rothof and after a short climb reach the water reservoir. In an open log cabin stands on a massive granite block the two-meter-high linden wood figure of Saint Mauritius. From here you have a wonderful view over the vineyards and forests of the foothill zone and the Rhine plain. In good visibility, you can make out the tower of Strasbourg Cathedral in the distance, which stands out from the Vosges.
Via Gaishaldeweg, you walk past the Kaier forest playground. On a paved service road leading left into the vineyards, after some hairpin bends on a steep street, you come to a sandstone fountain trough and the wayside shrine of Alexander Schindler at Rechenköpfle. Then the path continues steeply uphill to Kutzenstein and through the shady forest to the Francis wayside shrine and the wooden crucifix at the Kreuztanne. Via a downhill hiking trail through the forest and orchards, you return to the starting point.
