On the Peurapolku trail, you get to explore the settlement of Manamansalo dating back to the Stone Age. Along the trail, there is, among other things, a reindeer hunting village and a memorial church at the end point.
The trail starts from Manamansalo Port and ends at the memorial church. Initially, it passes through Martinlahti camping area to a beach whose children's play areas are inspired by Manamansalo's folk tales. From the beach, the trail leads to a swamp area, then to the forest, and finally to the memorial church. In the forest along the trail, there are about 70 reindeer hunting pits and a reindeer hunting village built in a prehistoric spirit, whose main building is a sod chamber. Additionally, there is a campfire site and toilet in the village. Along the trail, there is also a tar kiln.
The memorial and the related outdoor church are built on a site where people have lived since the Stone Age. The site is a Stone Age artifact find location. It also housed Kainuu's first Christian cemetery and church, which, however, was destroyed around 1580 during the Rappasodat wars.

Tips and suggestions
The memorial church site was home to Kainuu’s first church, built in the 1500s. Prehistoric artifacts have been found around the church site, suggesting that the area has been inhabited for nearly 8000 years. Read more on the Vaalan municipality website.
From the memorial church, it is about 1.5 kilometers to the Kilonniemi gneiss cliffs, which is also a geological attraction worth visiting.
About five kilometers from Manamansalo Port is the magnificent Oulujärvi hiking area, which also offers excellent facilities for hiking on land and on water.
Roadbook
Peurapolku starts from Manamansalo Port, where there is a restaurant, shop, and camping area. The route first goes about 800 meters along the shore from the restaurant. At the end of the swimming beach, a small path leads left towards the asphalt road. Cross the road and continue to the swamp section. After the swamp section, you come to a fork where the path continues right toward the memorial church about one kilometer away, and left toward the reindeer hunting village. Return from the memorial church via the same route, or if you wish to visit the reindeer hunting village, continue straight until you reach the sandy road. Turn right and continue about 300 meters, where you will find the signboard for the reindeer hunting village. It is about 300 meters from the reindeer hunting village back to the Manamansalo Port shore road.
