General information:
Especially in autumn, pay attention that fallen leaves on the ground can conceal unevenness, roots, stones, or holes along the path. After thunderstorms or heavy rain, trees can still fall or branches break off. In adverse weather conditions, natural paths can become muddy and slippery. Not all rocks or ravines are secured with ropes or railings. In some areas, sure-footedness is required. Expect such path impairments when hiking. If you believe certain sections are impassable for you, you should avoid them.
NOTE:
We strive to announce all closures due to forestry work or hunting associations on this platform. Nonetheless, there are situations where trails are blocked without our knowledge. If you unexpectedly encounter a trail closure or detour, please observe the instructions for your own safety.
Roadbook
The Path of History takes you through the upper village via the Forest Spirits Trail to the Castle Square. A climb to the
Guttenberg Castle Ruin is worthwhile, offering a stunning panoramic view of the Palatinate Forest, the Northern Vosges, and the Rhine Plain. Hike over the Böllenborn and Otterbach "Three Oaks" on the Westwall Trail back to Oberotterbach. The Forest Spirits Trail, with its numerous lovingly crafted wood carvings along the path, delights young and old alike. Text and picture panels at the protected bunker ruins explain the construction, life and death on the Westwall, as well as the plants and wildlife that have since settled there. At the transition from forest to the vineyards, you have a magnificent view of Oberotterbach lying in the valley with its two churches and the "Schlössel".
