    Author’s recommendation

An absolute highlight right at the beginning of the route is the Alsterweiler Chapel with the Maikammer altar inside - an example of late Gothic panel painting, probably completed around 1445. Furthermore, a wonderful view of Maikammer and the Rhine Plain from Berggasse with seating options and an opportunity for a cozy snack break.

    Roadbook

The route starts at the Alsterweiler Chapel. There is a historic vineyard with medieval cultivation methods and old training techniques for the vine stocks. To the left of the chapel, the wine educational path leads along the Kapellenweg via the access path Pfälzer Weinsteig with green-white markings to the west. The main grape varieties planted in the surrounding vineyards are described there on information boards. After about 500 m, the grape variety path turns right at a small stream bridge, passes the newly built Alster fountain, and after a short ascent to the north and crossing the L515, there is a seating area and an old wine press along the route. Here on Berggasse, along the hiking trail Deutsche Weinstraße, there is a beautiful view over the vineyards to Maikammer and into the Upper Rhine Plain. With a view of Hambach Castle, continue about 500 m straight ahead to the next fork in the path. There, at the Bildstock, a holy image on a sandstone pillar, turn right and walk straight ahead with a slight right turn to the hollow way. Passing the Kredenburg playground, through Kredenburgstraße and through Friedhofstraße, the loop ends back at the starting point Alsterweiler Chapel.
