The Lynx Path leads through the area where the lynx female "Gaupa" settled in 2019. Gaupa was the first lynx since the beginning of the reintroduction to permanently establish her territory in the Dahner Felsenland and raised offspring here. The Seibertsbachtal and the Moosbachtal were among the frequently used areas which Gaupa also roamed in 2019 together with her young.

WATCH OUT! - Campaign for respectful coexistence in nature

Always behave considerately, friendly, and respectfully towards everyone you meet on the way.

Respect nature, do not destroy plants, and always stay on the paths.

Bring along a trash bag for your walk and take your waste back home with you.

Please keep your dog on a leash at all times. Other visitors and animals will thank you.

Observe all path closures for your own safety, even on weekends.

Park only in designated parking lots. Leave space for rescue routes and agricultural machinery.

Give priority to agricultural and forestry traffic, please.

    Safety information

Particularly in autumn, pay attention to the fact that fallen leaves on the ground can conceal unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. After thunderstorms or rainstorms, trees can still topple or branches fall afterwards. In adverse weather conditions, natural paths can become muddy and slippery sections. Not all rocks or cliffs are secured with ropes or railings. Surefootedness is required in places. You must expect these kinds of path impairments when you go hiking. If you think certain path sections are impassable for you, you should bypass them. Despite the "unbeatable" marking of the premium hiking trails, we recommend always carrying a corresponding hiking map for safety reasons, so that you can quickly reach a safe area, for example, in case of a thunderstorm or emergency.

    NOTE:

We strive to announce all closures caused by forestry work, hunting groups on this platform. Nevertheless, there are situations where hiking trails are closed and we might not have been informed. Should you encounter closures or detours on site, please observe the notices for your own safety.

    Roadbook

From the parking lot to the PWV hut and further to the "Seibertsbachtal". Here turn right through the valley and later follow the path uphill to the junction on the north side of the "Edersberg". The path now leads downhill to the romantic "Langental" and to the mighty "Froschfelsen". In the valley, it continues to the "Moosbachtal Nature Reserve". Passing several ponds, the "Moosbachtal hiking parking lot" and the "Elwetritschfelsen," it goes back to the starting point of the route, the parking lot by the PWV hut.

Habitat Lynx: The cross-border biosphere reserve Palatinate Forest - Northern Vosges offers excellent living conditions for the lynx. There is enough space for the large territories that the lynx needs for hunting and sufficient game. It finds rocks and varied structured, low-disturbance forest areas that offer retreat opportunities for it and its young. With about 3,000 km² of suitable habitat, the biosphere area provides space for about 45 independent lynxes.
