The Kamenná Baba – Lačnov educational trail leads through the remarkable karst gorge of the Kamenný potok stream in the Branisko mountain range. An easy route between the villages of Lipovce and Lačnov with many natural attractions – rocky cliffs, caves, waterfalls, and views.
The Kamenná Baba – Lačnov educational trail is one of the oldest of its kind in Slovakia. It leads through an exceptional natural area – the Lačnov canyon, created by the Kamenný potok stream between the Branisko and Bachureň mountain ranges.
The route is bidirectional and coincides with the red trail. It leads through remarkable karst surroundings within the Kamenná Baba national nature reserve, which protects unique geomorphological and botanical values of the Lačnov canyon. The short but rewarding route offers views of rock cliffs, formations like Kamenná Baba, Moses' Column, karst caves, and a gorge with a ladder and steps. The educational trail is 4.8 km long without the descent path.
It is suitable for all nature lovers, families with children, and school trips, especially in spring and autumn months.
For return, you can choose from three options:
- back along the same route
- on the asphalt road and along the 5873 cycle path following the Svinka river basin (along the way you will encounter a gravity anomaly or the Zlá diera cave)
- forest road along the green trail through Lačnov saddle, then along the red trail through Kopytovská valley back to the educational trail
This short but rich hike offers an ideal combination of natural science knowledge and recreational activity in one of the most beautiful gorges in eastern Slovakia.
