Fallow Deer Trail (accessible)
The loop trail is signposted in both directions.
An accompanying person is recommended.
The trail includes a few gentle ascents and descents, but they are easy to navigate. The trail surface is covered with fine gravel throughout and is well-maintained. The trail circles the Herrenberg Forest Cemetery and passes by the fallow deer enclosure, where, with a little luck, you can spot the animals. The “Entenseele” biotope is also located along the trail.
There are several places to sit along the trail, perfect for taking short breaks.
After your walk, the Naturfreundehaus Herrenberg, located across the street (a crosswalk is available), invites you to stop in for a cozy break. It offers barrier-free access to the terrace and dining area, as well as an accessible restroom. You can find the Naturfreundehaus’s opening hours at: www.nfh-herrenberg.de
The bus stop at the Herrenberg Forest Cemetery is served by a low-floor city bus (Line 782).
Author’s recommendation
Take advantage of the quieter days during the week to watch the fallow deer.
Visit the fallow deer enclosure in October during the rutting season. Their impressive behavior can be easily observed even during the day.
