The educational trail connects not only the sources of two rivers - Rimavica and Ipeľ, but also two regions located in the Banská Bystrica region - Horehronie and Podpoľanie.
The educational trail "From the source of the Rimavica to the source of the Ipeľ" connects the sources of two important rivers Rimavica and Ipeľ, between which lies the village of Lom nad Rimavicou. From both the northern and southern sides, it is surrounded by the wealth of this mountainous village, which includes not only folk traditions and architecture but also the beauty of the surrounding nature rich in dense forests. In good weather, you can enjoy picturesque views of the Low Tatras, High Tatras, and the Klenovský and Ľubietovský Vepor, which are part of the Slovak Ore Mountains.
Along the educational trail, you will find several stops that will interest not only adults but also children. It is a pleasant walk that even the youngest can easily manage.
In the winter months, you can visit this route on cross-country skis and enjoy well-prepared cross-country trails, which have become popular with many skiers. The route can also be traveled by bicycle, as it is a marked cycling trail.
Author’s recommendation
Enjoy beautiful mountain views from the Largest Horehronie swing, which is 4 meters high. In the summer months, with a bit of luck, you may also meet a shepherd with sheep here.

In winter, please be careful not to cross the groomed cross-country ski tracks.
Roadbook
The trail leads from the village center from the source of the Rimavica, which is located right opposite the municipal office, and continues along the village street, still lined with preserved wooden cottages with stone foundations typical for the mountain environment. Among them, visitors will find a blacksmith's forge and refresh themselves at a well that reminds them of the village’s film history.
Shortly after the village, a shelter was built where families with children can not only rest but also learn something new about the local fauna and flora.
From the gazebo, take the path to the right, where occasional climbs await you. Head towards Čierťaž, from where only a few meters separate you from the lovers' bench and the Largest Horehronie swing. Continue further west, where you will find a memorial to an aviation accident. Then, after passing through the forest, you will discover a gazebo under which the source of the Ipeľ River is hidden.
You can return the same way, or choose a shorter route and go directly towards the village along the field path. You will come out near a gazebo, from where head back to the village.

You can reach the village of Lom nad Rimavicou by bus, which operates from Brezno, Hriňová, or Kokava nad Rimavicou according to valid timetables.
