A short but interesting historical educational trail leads from the eastern edge of the village Podhradík to the ruins of the medieval castle Šebeš. The route is suitable for families with children and school trips.
This easy self-guided educational trail takes you through the history of castle Šebeš, which was established around 1300, in half an hour. The route leads through forest terrain to a wooded rocky promontory, from where the remains of the castle walls and views of the Košice basin can be seen. Information panels explain the historical development of the castle, archaeological research, its decline, and restoration thanks to local initiatives. On the way you will pass a site with an inscription in the rock from the 19th century commemorating the famous mining surveyor Ľudovít Čech. The trail is easy in profile and accessible all year round.
Author’s recommendation
During the ascent, pay attention to the rock formations and the inscription in the rock from 1896. It is an interesting historical testimony and a small treasure for curious eyes.
