Isny has created a biodiversity trail in the historic old town. At various stations, the diverse habitat is presented.
The urban habitat is inhabited not only by humans. Remarkably many wild animals and plants live in urban nature. Some species now feel more at home among urban buildings, in parks and green spaces, but also in private gardens than outside in the countryside. A structurally rich city with small-scale use creates diverse habitats. Trees in the city are not used for timber production. The proportion of old trees and decaying wood (deadwood) is therefore much higher than in commercial forests, benefiting many species. For animals that primarily live on buildings and especially find cracks and niches in old masonry, the city offers many opportunities, e.g., for house sparrows and black redstarts or swifts and kestrels. Plants in the city are often survival artists, not only surviving in parks and gardens but also at roadsides and trailsides, in wall cracks and niches, on wasteland or construction sites.
