Roadbook
Ascent: After the inn, gently ascending in the forest on a forest road (red marking) to a beautiful clearing with a property (Höchbauer, view!). Ascend more steeply eastward along the edge of a reforestation area, then into a saddle in the forest (to the right the dilapidated Brunnsteinalm). Eastward around the summit point 1409 m on a level forest road generally heading northeast through forest, then gently ascending over clearings to a height of 1468 m (hut, cross "Eiserner Herrgott", view). From here considerably more demanding terrain: eastward over the partly narrow, windblown ridge (caution!) into a saddle, 1420 m, and counter ascent to point 1462 m. On the from here again gentler, broader ridge, first flat, then clearly ascending in tight switchbacks (not too far right!) higher. The ridge is sometimes wind-scoured and snow-free at the upper part. Finally across the extensive summit plateau past a large telecommunication facility on the right to the Terzer Haus near the chairlift mountain station. 2½ hours.
Descent: Same as ascent to the saddle, from which there is a right path down to Höchbauer. Then straight on, gently ascending south over the dilapidated Brunnsteinalm. Eastward past point 1407. Then drifting southwest into the initially flat forest and at a suitable spot (right blocking rocks) sliding down nicely to a crossing forest road. Further downhill to the next forest road and right back to the starting point. 1¾ hours.
