Cima Roma and Cima Val Perse from Rifugio Stoppani at Grostè
Little Fish Trek
To fully enjoy the environment, it should be planned only with good visibility, also because uncertain visibility here can create some problems and change the perception of difficulty.
Considering length and elevation gains, it can be done at a relaxed pace and, if in a group, with all the "natural group chat breaks".

My technical difficulty rating for this snowshoe hike is "WT3" but it only refers to a few final meters for Cima Val Perse and – in certain snow conditions – the first steps of the traverse toward Cima Roma from the saddle that divides it from Cima Val Perse: the rest is between "WT1" and "WT2".
In the "Directions to follow" sheet, I write my brief impressions of the day: everything is logical and there is no need to go into detail.

Safety information
This snowshoe hike – considering the development and exposures of the route – requires a careful assessment of the snowpack risk level for the chosen day.It is advisable to consider the following:
- "Learn by heart" the avalanche snow bulletin.
- In my opinion, looking at it the day before is not enough, but you should check it every day during the winter season to fully understand the evolution of the snowpack.
- At least one experienced person in the group who also knows the type of ground beneath the snow to better judge local situations.
- Granted that a book can never replace a course taught by professionals, my favorite on snow-avalanche topics is: "SNOW Compendium of Snow Science" by Renato Cresta – Mulatero publisher.
- Excellent for risk reduction evaluation techniques is: "AVALANCHES – How to Reduce Risk" by Philippe Descamps and Olivier Moret – VERSANTE SUD EDITIONS.
- I report from another book a phrase that should always be remembered: "Events are often attributed to skill by chance; snow is stable 95 percent of the time, but we confuse the absence of avalanches with our ability to make good decisions."
- Snowshoes and skis are "two different worlds": do not blindly follow previous ski tracks.
Bring all necessary equipment.
Tips and suggestions
The recommended period I indicated is from December to April, but for the seasonal extremes the actual opening of the Grostè Cable Car or Gondola must be considered.Roadbook
This route was completed on February 22, 2020, and all subsequent observations and considerations fully apply only to that day.

From Rifugio Stoppani, which is located at the upper exit of the Grostè Cable Car, you ascend along the pistes up to the upper station of the Grostè Express Chairlift.
Then you ascend briefly southward, and traverse halfway along the slope towards the southeast to gently descend onto the plateau which, almost perfectly southward, leads below the final ascent slope to Cima Roma.
This long plateau is full of gentle humps, and there is a better line to minimize the ups and downs: my companion and I did not always follow this best line (well packed by previous days' passages) and allowed ourselves some brief detours.
The final slope is a true medium-gradient slope with some hollows that allow a rather peaceful ascent with good snow coverage.
You thus reach the saddle that divides Cima Roma from Cima Val Perse, which face each other a few meters apart and with just a few meters difference in elevation.
Cima Roma is higher, it is the classic endpoint of the route and is far more panoramic, but if time allows, you can also ascend Cima Val Perse for some unusual views.
For the summit point of Cima Roma, you need to remove snowshoes on the last very easy rocky outcrops.
