Sledding route Stuhleck - Pfaffensattel
The toll road from Pfaffensattel to the Alois-Günther-Haus, closed and groomed in winter, is excellent for sledding! Always a pleasure also with snowshoes and touring skis.
Author’s recommendation
Especially on weekends and during vacation times, sleds are often available for rent at Pfaffensattel. There is also punch, mulled wine, or hot chocolate. Ask for details at the Alois-Günther-Haus!

Safety information
Bring warm clothing, the route already starts at about 1300m. Above the tree line, in fog and storm, it is unpleasant, although you just have to keep going upwards to the summit. Leaving the hut correctly for navigation in fog can be quite challenging due to the many fences and piste signs (do not underestimate!).
Tips and suggestions
The winter hike to Stuhleck is a special treat due to its long-distance view, with Schneeberg and Rax visible on one side and the Graz mountain region on the other. Under good conditions, you can see about a third of all Austria from Stuhleck.
Roadbook
From the parking lot at Pfaffensattel, hike for about 1 hour always along the nearly 4 km long toll road, which is closed in winter, up to the summit. In the lower area, you are still in the wind-protected dense forest. In the upper area above the tree line, you are very exposed; due to the numerous snow poles, the road route is always clearly visible.

Coming from Vienna, exit at Seebenstein junction onto the S6 until the Steinhaus exit. From there continue towards Rettenegg via the state road. Pfaffensattel is on the way and recognizable by the saddle location and the closed inn. Beware, often difficult driving conditions in winter and snow chains may often be required.

Some parking spaces on both sides of the road. When busy, please do not block the road (this will be fined).
