GlocknerhausSafety information
It is not always advisable to cross straight on from the aforementioned "narrow section" into the Schwerteckkees, as the terrain there is steep, exposed to the wind and therefore prone to snow slabs; this should also be borne in mind on the descent!Roadbook
From the Glocknerhaus on hiking trail no. 741 down to the Margaritzen reservoir. We walk over the crest of two dam walls to the south bank and on the west bank a short distance to a striking gully that leads up to the rock garden. From here we traverse approx. 400 metres in a westerly direction to the lake streams and then climb up the steep cirque until it is divided by a prominent rock head. From here we ascend another 100 metres to a narrow section that leads into the Schwerteckkees. Climb very steeply up to the left until you reach the flatter area of the Kees. We make our way along the north face of the Schwertkopf up to around 3000 metres and turn slightly to the right to reach a flat area at 3100 metres. From here onto the west ridge of the Schwertkopf and over this to the summit. On the descent we more or less stick to the ascent.
