A very scenic ski touring crossing of the Schwalbenwand. From Maria Alm at the Steinernes Meer, it goes to Maishofen, from where you can take a second car or taxi back to the starting point. The route is frequently traveled and usually well tracked.

    Author’s recommendation

Either park a second car at the destination or use a taxi to return to the starting point. More information can be found in the links.

    Safety information

Caution with ski tour crossings: Assessing the slopes during the descent is often significantly more complex than during the ascent! There are some steep steps in the forest during the descent.

    Roadbook

From the parking lot on the flat forest road into the Jetzbachgraben to a farmstead. At an altitude of about 910 m, after the bridge, head west over alpine meadows to the Hinterjetzbach hut and near the Oberstegalm at about 1360 m, turn left behind a small patch of forest heading south, through the forest belt to the Hofer Hochberghütte. Now head south to the ridge height and past the Gerlinger Alm over a plateau and two summits to the steep summit slope of the Schwalbenwand at 2011 m. For the descent, there are two routes to choose from. To Schloss Kammer via the southern variant. Over open alpine meadows keeping right, here onto the forest road up to the hiking trail and further over meadows and at about 1000 m along the forest road to the inn at Schloss Kammer.
