In rare cases and depending on snow conditions and the month, it is possible to drive up to the parking lot on the forest road to the Bertahütte. Therefore, the described route starts just below the parking lot. You follow the forest road to the barrier and then choose either the forest road or the steeper forest path (trail no. 680) to reach the saddle at the height of the Bertahütte. From here, follow the marked normal ascent (trail no. 680) and at the beginning cross several gullies on the east flank up to the walls of the Hühnerkogel. From here, numerous switchbacks lead to the 2,070 m high saddle. In a northwestern direction, you reach the Mittagskogel below the ridge. The descent follows the ascent route and from the Bertahütte is best done via the forest road.
